For students behind in reading and spelling ability, we have special programs to help them as well. Training in this area works on quick recognition of words by teaching sixty common letter clusters used in English language. The letter clusters are only two or three letter combinations with distinct sounds that never change despite their placement within a word. Students are taught to systematically build words that rhyme or sound similar using the key clusters. Then they are taught to breakdown words by first identifying the clusters in the words before reading the word. To improve spelling, the assembly process is reversed by recognizing and building using the sounds of the same letter clusters. Most students using this process generally learn to read and spell above their grade level within several weeks.
